Comparing the time of Jesus first coming with the the time of Cyrus the Great is a false comparison in the context of Matthew 4:8-9.
The REAL comparison is to NOW. Start with the context, Matthew 3:3, where John the Baptist prepares the way:
“A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”
